A few weeks ago I saw a YouTube video of a little girl telling her dad "worry about yourself" which then led me to meditate on the phrase. This little girl is trying her best to master buckling her own car seat which seems to be stuck. Her father is so focused on her problem that he can't do what he is "supposed" to do which is drive. *Pause* As an adult I know that he shouldn't drive with her improperly buckled in, but for the sake of this post just go with the narrative :) *Resume* She politely declines his offer to help then reminds him that he has a task that he isn't doing because he is worried about her versus being worried about himself.
We, as humans, have a tendency of worrying about other people's lives and situations. Why do we do this? Perhaps to distract us from our own life situations. Maybe it's a family member who needs to be saved. Many of us won't admit it, but maybe this person has something that we THINK we want. I even believe some people genuinely care about the well being of others. Heres a shocker, maybe you think someone else would be better fit for the life that God has given you *gasps*. No matter what your reasoning is it is not your place to worry about the lives of others. You're not God, you cannot change, fix, save, nor can you duplicate someone else's life. So, worry about yourself!
It has become custom in our society to believe that we should look, act, and live a certain way which creates all types of problems within our lives and communities. It doesn't pay to "fit in" because often times its the one who "stands out" that is called out! In the scripture above Samuel, a man of great faith whose life was dedicated to God at birth, set out to find a successor for King Saul. He thought He knew what God was looking for in a king, but God had to give him a nice little read. Always remember that God qualifies the called versus calling the qualified which is what He did here. David wasn't worried about why he wasn't initially asked to appear at the sacrifice with the rest of his brothers. Instead, David was minding his own business tending to the sheep when he was called out for the anointing of God to be placed on his life.
See! You don't have to be anyone but yourself. You don't have to worry about anyone but you. You can't be a sheep herder if you're busy trying to figure out how a carpenter builds houses. WORRY ABOUT YOURSELF! If you do what you're supposed to do then God will do what He is supposed to do. We can't take anyone into heaven with us and no one can take us with them. The righteous way is straight and NARROW according to the book of Matthew, which means there is only room for one person in your ride. You can direct folks to the dealership, but that doesn't mean they'll leave in the right vehicle that'll take them to the right place. Don't worry about them just worry about yourself.
