Shift your Direction

Jeremiah 26:13 "Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you"

Remember the movie "Twister"? This movie was about storm chasers who were eager to find out what  went on inside of a tornado. They diligently chased storms putting themselves in danger for whatever information they sought after. Watching a tornado on it's path of destruction is amazing to me, but what is even more amazing is the ones that suddenly dissipate. When we lead a life that is not aligned with the Word of God we are indeed a tornado on the path of destruction. Moreover, when we appear to lead a life pleasing to God, but use the Word to hurt others we are even more destructive. Think back to a time when you can clearly remember yourself in a disastrous state. Is it similar to the way a tornado behaves? Were you spinning out of control and carelessly destroying anything in your path? Or are you currently in that place? Some of us aren't the destructive tornado, but just by standers in the path of one.

Sin is a thrill. Although its dangerous we still desire to live on the wild side and partake in the "fun". Even though it has the potential to destroy us we still chase after it just like the storm chasers in the movie above does. We have to be careful not to allow our sin to overtake us and become who we are. We have to be able to recognize where we are and shift our direction and our perspective to Christ. It is never too late to shift your direction, remember the thief on the cross beside Jesus?

So, what do you do when you're in these situations? How do you know if you're on the path of destruction as a tornado or a bystander? Although the answer is simple, which is to examine the life you live, the process of doing so can be a little difficult. If you're a Bible reading believer then you'll know that we can't do any self-assessments or improving in our own strength. Honestly, it was our lack of strength against our flesh that put us in a destructive state of mind to begin with. God has a history of calming storms which means He can also calm your storm and your situation. For those in the path of a destructive storm (person) trust God to protect you as He did His disciples in the midst of the storm on the boat.

I challenge you to do a self assessment this week. Evaluate the things you say, the way you treat people, and they way you treat yourself to see if you're a tornado on the path of destruction. Then evaluate the people around you to see if you're in the path of a destructive tornado. As followers of Christ we are to uplift God's people no matter what their situation is, we are not the judge. After all, none of us are perfect and none of us will be exempt from judgement. So shift your direction NOW! Don't be destructive to those around you and don't allow those around you to be destructive to you.
