The Bigger Picture

Matt. 14:14 "And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and He healed their sick."

Here lies a man Who as The Bible stated has no place to lay His head recorded in Matt. 8:20. He had just heard word of His dear friend John The Baptist death and not even a moment to grieve He looked beyond His personal feelings and showed compassion to those that were sick. Why? Because He knew that others needed Him. Yes, He was still God, but He also could feel what we feel. Can you imagine? Someone very close to you has died and you are helping someone else get through their problems? That is what we are called to do. You know, be selfless and not selfish. So many times we may get so caught up in what we are going through that we forget the big picture. That painting on the wall that illustrates our life is not our own anymore. That we are unable to stay down and dwell about what our current trial may be because there is still work to be done, lives that need changing, and a God that deserves glorifying! That's what Jesus did in that passage, glorified His Father. Many of us would have let those people stay sick because we chose to grieve a loved one. Jesus showed His compassion toward them even when His disciples were trying to get Him to send them away in Matt. 14:15. Also, one of love's characteristics is not being self seeking. Love aims to please not meaning a people pleaser, but pleasing God. If we please God we will have no problem helping someone along the way. Our goal as Christians should be deeper than the worldly goals we once wanted to obtain. Having a great job is fine, getting a family, etc..but our main goal should be to exemplify Christ in our daily living. To exemplify Him is to care for the needs of others over our personal wants. We should give to the point that people start to question like the disciples did Jesus. It is time for God's people to come awake and truly serve God. The world needs to see that there are still compassionate people who serve a compassionate God. It is not about us anymore, but about our lives being dedicated to Him. Let us pray to arise to the occasion of being servants of Christ.
