You are a blessing

1 Samuel 16:23 "And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him."

Do you know what God has given you? There are treasures within each of us that we may look over and others look greatly upon. God uses those treasures not for us to show boat, but to bring glory to His Kingdom and help others along the way. If it has not already been clear, we need each other for one thing or another. I definitely am guilty of not using all of my gifts God has blessed me with out of my own flesh. This past week a church member told me how she was blessed by a song I led a month ago. I was shocked because I really do not think I can sing. Every now and then I will around the house or randomly on camera, but not seriously thinking God could use me to bless anyone. What she said and others stayed with me. Honestly, I felt bad, because I kept His gift hidden out of my own insecurities when it is not about me at all.

What if David kept his gift to himself? Saul was depending on David's playing of the harp to gain peace in his spirit. Saul was dealing with an evil spirit and it may not have been paranormal activity, but it was definitely bothersome. Have you ever dealt with a spirit inside of you that you needed freedom from? Maybe the spirit of anger, bitterness, pride, jezebel, lust, and God sent someone with a Word that broke the yoke? Maybe, it was a gospel song that brought freedom in your life? Possibly your own gift that God has given you made the enemy go away? Knowing our gifts and actively practicing our gifts can change our lives and lives around us. David was highly respected at a young age because he chose to do the will of The Lord and was blessed exceedingly. He is another example of a young person living for Christ; it is not impossible.

He like us could have been doing other things, yet he decided to stay in The Will of The Lord. They had plenty of distractions back then just as we do now. However, David decided to not allow those distractions to keep him from being used by God. We must be careful on how we spend our time and who we spend our time with on a daily basis. Satan lures us with distractions to get us away from what we are purposed on earth to do for God. He may send a girl in a tight dress or a trip to a wild party. How can we publicly serve God with our gifts if we are also publicly serving Satan? But that's another post. David was in position for God to pull out of Him what He put in him. So David played his harp and God blessed his hands so that it would in turn bless Saul. Saul was refreshed because David's hands were clean. His hands were clean because his heart was pure and that is the only way God can use us, is with a pure heart. If our hearts are not pure our work is in vain and people will not feel the anointing of God. You ever heard a songstress sing and thought she has a beautiful voice, but there is no anointing behind it? Don't let that be you! Life is too short and too great to not live to your best potential in Christ. So what are your gifts? Are you actively using them to glorify God?

All Tied Up

Matthew 21:2 "Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find a donkey tied, and a colt with her; loose them, and bring them unto me."

Have you every been tied up? When I say tied up I mean caught up in a situation that you couldn't get out of. Have you ever been tied to a person that you just couldn't let go of? That's a soul tie, but that's a topic for another day. Have you ever just been stuck? Stuck in life. Stuck in a job you don't like. Stuck in a city you can't prosper in. Stuck in a ministry you can't grow in. Life's challenges and circumstances can sometimes get us tied up so much so that we have no clue how to get loosed.

Did it ever occur to you that you may be tied up in waiting so that God can use you in His appointed time. Perhaps we are like this donkey in the aforementioned scripture; seen as worthless, overlooked, and disregarded yet in all that God has purpose for you. Fortunately, being tied up is not always a bad thing. Sometimes God has to detain us for our own sake. It could be to keep you focused on Him and protecting you from your fleshly desires.

So, we have this donkey in which Jesus sends His disciples to loose in order to fulfill His purpose which holds true to the prophesy in Zechariah 9:9. No one knew who the donkey belonged to, but Jesus dared anyone to stop them from untying it because it indeed belonged to Him. We can apply this to our lives by knowing that we belong to God; therefore, He can and will break every chain and loose you from things that have held you bound and dare anyone to say something about it. Jesus saw in this donkey what no one else could see and the same goes for you. It's all about being in the right place at the right time. All of the notable prophets in the Bible were held captive at some point whether it be physically or mentally, everyone had a moment where God had to loose them to use them. For example; Paul spent time in prison, the Hebrew boys were held captive and thrown in the fire, Joseph was falsely accused and thrown into prison, Jonah was held captive in the belly of a whale, and etc. It was in those moments that God was able to maximize the use of these vessels for the good of the church as a whole.

You may be stuck right now looking at the same ole thing the same ole way when God has you looking at the same old thing to see it in a new way, His way. Perhaps you're looking in the mirror, accepting all of the false characteristics given to you by the people around you. You're stuck in that place because God wants you to look in the mirror and see yourself as He sees you; a purposeful, beautiful/handsome, intelligent being perfectly imperfect. In some cases you determine the sentence of your imprisonment. Don't allow yourself to be held captive longer than intended by your inability to focus on God. It's FREEDOM FRIDAY so get loosed!

I Can't Give Up

Isaiah 62:12 "And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of The Lord: and thou shall be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken."

Did you not know you were sought out? Yeah, because not one soul sought after God, but it was indeed Him Who picked us in Psalm 14:2. So while we were off galavanting into sin, God patiently waited for us to realize His Love, His Purpose, His Proposal to spend the rest of our lives with Him. Now, what does this have to do with not giving up? It has EVERYTHING to do with us not giving up you guys. God did not give up on us. Not today, not yesterday, not last week because we are still here. Being able to breathe, mess up, then get better is God not giving up on us. Realizing that wonderful news, we mustn't give up on ourselves or others.

When in a marriage, you agree til death do you part, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer. Okay, so we most likely did not repeat these vows once accepting Christ, but that was apart of the cost we had to count once allowing God total Lordship over our lives. Jesus committed to us by stating He will never leave us nor forsake us throughout The Bible. Even in the verse above it states that we will never be forsaken. So don't give up! I don't care what the enemy is telling you, don't give in!  The post yesterday imposed a question on why do we praise God? If we are indeed praising and worshiping for the right reasons we are then empowered to keep going! God provides a supernatural strength once faced with adversity. You can't give up because it is not just about you, but what God has placed in you which is dependent for others around you.

There are people depending on you to keep going. Have you ever thought about that? We are living in a time where it is so easy to just say, "forget it." Think about the impact giving up can cause to people who look up to you? If you give up, it can trigger a domino effect. The scripture states that God is our Redeemer! Another reason as to why we are unable to forfeit in life because He has already foretold the outcome! We do not need a super hero or Kevin Gates telling us "I don't get tired." News flash, we ALL get tired, but God never slumbers nor sleeps. Christians don't give up. We give it to God. Whatever "it" may be just relinquish all control to Him. I can't give up, you can't give up, we can't give up. So don't! We are in this together, fam! Keep going and keep in mind that our Redeemer lives and will forever be there for us. Aren't you thankful? It is #ThankfulThursday so rejoice that God has not and will not give up on us which should empower us not to as well!

What is the Reason?

Psalms 96:4 "For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods."

Why do you praise the Lord? Do you praise Him because you're afflicted and you need deliverance OR are you afflicted because you praised God so now the devil is trying to shake your faith? Do you worship Him because of what He's done or can do for you OR do you worship Him because of who He is and you know there is something you can do for Him? When did you find God? Was it after you lost everything/everyone OR did He find you when you had everything challenging you to give it up in order to be fit for the kingdom? These are very valid questions in that many people may not know why they praise, worship, and fear God.

I'll be the first to say that my reasoning (initially) was not because of His greatness; instead, it was for His abilities. It's time to do a self check to see why YOU praise God. We all have different circumstances and situations that led up to us dedicating our lives to Christ; however, our reason for worshiping Him should be the same. That reason should be none other than the fact that He is great! Greatness encompasses a lot of different characteristics; therefore, the greatness you see in God may be completely different from the greatness I see. Nonetheless He is still great. So great that He couldn't even put it into words for our understanding when Moses asked who He was His reply was, "I am that I am". For you (where ever you are), He may be a counselor and in that same moment for me (all the way in Houston, TX), He can be a comforter; GREATNESS. No one else can do that, no one else can be that, and no one else can even understand that.

One thing we fail to realize is that salvation involves some sort of sacrifice. Similar to what I mentioned above, the level of my sacrifice is different from the level of your sacrifice. Well Kim, why is that? It's because my purpose is different from your purpose and as much as we would like it to be life isn't fair and neither is favor. Perhaps God had to take away some things for you to see Him while in Suzie's life He has to add some things for her to see Him. Sometimes God's blessings isn't in what He gives, but in what He takes away. What works for one person may not work for everyone hence the reason I'm not a millionaire. No matter what approach was taken the end result was the same which is to see and glorify God.

You'll never be able to directly correlate your life and blessings along side someone else's life to measure who is more blessed; remember, Worry About Yourself! Make sure your reason for praising, worshiping, and fearing God is none other than because of His greatness. He is who He is and that, in and of itself, is enough.

How long?

Habakkuk 1:2 "O Lord, how long shall I cry, and You not hear! Even cry out to You of violence and You not save!"

You ever cried to The Lord? Are you currently crying out to God? We all will have to ask "when" at some point in our life's journey. When will better days come? When will the struggle end? When will I feel appreciated? When will I finish school? I have been dealing with a "when" season for quite some time now. One thing God is teaching me is that His Timing is so perfect that my mind is unable to fathom His "when." See, I question because I am imperfect. When I submit to God, I realize I should not be concerned about "when" because I have already won in Christ in Hebrews 13:6. That scripture declares that The Lord IS my Helper! So there is no need to constantly ask when. He has already provided an answer before the question.

The answer is in His Word. The answer was in us realizing the ultimate sacrifice He gave the world, His Son, Jesus The Christ. I just want to say to all who reads to hold on. This past weekend, I went to the movies to see "Get on Up." One of the things that stuck out to me was how much James Brown went through in his life. Of course, the movie could not catch every aspect of his life, but what was shown captured my attention. He had a life I am sure I would not have been able to handle, yet he kept going. I am sure he questioned some things, there were moments of break down, but he never let that stop what he believed to be true. That's the same perspective we should carry because we have a sure confidence in the fact that we will make it somehow! Somehow, meaning not really knowing the exact exit route, but all we have to do is follow The Guide. Remember the puzzle that we used to do as little children? You know the one we had to use a pencil to do? There was a starting point and we had to strategically get to the finish line through all the curves and dead ends that mislead us. Life is that way. Holding on to God while traveling this life journey with all the curves and hiccups along the way, one day making it to the finish line(Heaven).

So when will better days come? Who says we are not already experiencing good days? Someone is looking at your life wishing they were you all the while you are taking it for granted. Count your blessings and stay rooted in God's Word. Just because things are not panning out the way your mind planned it does not mean God has stopped caring or working on your behalf. It is so important to hold on because suicide is more rapid now than ever. People are literally giving up on life because they believe God does not care which is the furthest thing from the truth. In reality, we stop caring and that is what makes it so easy to give up. We can commit spiritual suicide by just giving up on church, people, and His Word. Don't! An obstacle doesn't dictate our outcome. An obstacle's function is to make things harder, not to make us give up. That's a decision we make and shouldn't because we can overcome EVERYTHING in Christ! So stay encouraged! Think about the last trial you went through. You're still here aren't you? Did God not bring you out of that one? Well, He can bring you out of them ALL. The Defining Moment

Romans 10:9-13 "That if thou shalt confess with they mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved..."

Do you remember the moment you got saved? The moment you read and BELIEVED the aforementioned scripture. Do you remember what led up to that defining moment? I'm not talking about when you were 10 years old getting baptized, but when you REALLY committed your life to Christ. Throughout life you'll make many decisions, but this one is by far the most important one. What has your life been like since you've been committed? Has your life changed for the better? Are the people you once considered your closest friends now your old friends? Are you a better person? Have you established a forever growing relationship with God? Or if you just recently got saved, do you think your life will change for the better? Do you believe YOU will change for the better? Are you ready to experience the goodness of God? Can you handle God's favor?

That defining moment was the first step of you defining who you are in Christ; therefore, your answer to most of the questions above should be "yes". Committing to Christ is good, but you have to go a step further by submitting to Christ. Submission is crucial to our faith. Skipping submission can hinder our spiritual growth. Submission involves humbling yourself enough to realize that you do not have all the answers; therefore, you relinquish control to the One who does. Humility! Now that is a character trait that was scarcely distributed, but don't forget he who humbles himself on earth will be exalted in heaven. Get there!

It doesn't matter what happened to you before you reached your defining moment because in that moment you were delivered from your past. When you made that decision you became a new creature. You stepped into faith and yes, now your life has changed (or will change) and it will never be the same. Yes, YOU have changed (or will change) into a much better person than you were before. And NO not everyone will like it or agree with it, but it doesn't matter. You now walk in favor, God's favor. God's favor shows that against all odds you'll still be chosen, you're still the victor, and you'll still win the war.

Sure, you lost (or will lose) a lot of friends but you also gained a friend named Jesus whose loyalty alone is worth more than a thousand twitter/instagram followers, 3 BFFs, and hundreds of Facebook friends. Talk about a lesson of humbleness! Jesus in John 15:15 calls US (sinful, disobedient, ungrateful people) His friends. I can only speak for myself when I say if He is the ONLY friend I have then I'm okay with that. I'm 100% positive that there is not one person on this earth that I call friend that would die for me, there is no one I trust more, and there is no one who loves me more.

Start this week by remembering your defining moment because if it had not been for that moment you wouldn't have this moment! #FearlessFAITH

What do you know?

Job 38:4 "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding."

I would like to start this off by asking, what do you know? See, we get so caught up in whatever we are going through that we feel as though our reasoning will help us understand our situation better when it will not. Instead of us going to Him humbly seeking answers, we aggressively ask for demands. God delivers us over and over. Jesus delivers us from sin, hell, the grave, our troubles, our enemies, yet we still find it okay to question while in a storm. Why? Seriously, why is it that we can sing to Him, pray to Him, but still doubt knowing so much great works He has done. This particular scripture asks the question where were you when God was creating the land we so effortlessly walk on day to day. So, can you answer that?

Now of course, none of us can say we were there when God created the world. Scientist can talk until they are blue in the face, but God was The One Who created the world! It did not just happen. That does not even make sense, but I digress. So, we acknowledge that we were not there, correct? Since we were not there, it shows His Superioroity over us. Seeing that whatever carnal knowledge we may think we know is trumped because we really know nothing. God created the world just like He created our lives. He had a distinct purpose for everything He created. People complain about the rain, yet we need it to grow things. Relating that to life's storms, we complain about the rain in our lives not understanding that the rain is growing the seed of Faith that was planted during salvation. So what do you know? Our faith is not accessed by what we see, but by what we believe. What we believe shows not just by going to worship service or giving to the needy. It shows when we are going through trials as well. We openly broadcast what we know to all on how we conduct ourselves during life's most difficult moments. Do you play the blame game? Are you a victim all of the time?
What we know is what we show.

So He says declare if we have understanding. Can you hear the crickets. Even today not a soul has a full comprehension on how God created the world, and man, from, dust, and woman, from the man. In that same token, how are we suppose to figure our lives out that He gave us? News flash, we aren't. God expects us to trust Him just like any good relationship. The foundation has been laid, spiritually. Jesus has already put into place our means of trust by leaving Heaven to die for us! All He asks is that we genuinely believe what He says in His Word and make it a habit to live by It. So what do you know? You were not there, but you are here. You, me, we are here now and what we do know is not to lean to our own knowledge, but endlessly listen to Jesus. What do I know? I know Jesus loves me
and He will direct my path. What do you know?

Worry About Yourself

1 Samuel 16:7 "But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seethe not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart"

A few weeks ago I saw a YouTube video of a little girl telling her dad "worry about yourself" which then led me to meditate on the phrase. This little girl is trying her best to master buckling her own car seat which seems to be stuck. Her father is so focused on her problem that he can't do what he is "supposed" to do which is drive. *Pause* As an adult I know that he shouldn't drive with her improperly buckled in, but for the sake of this post just go with the narrative :) *Resume* She politely declines his offer to help then reminds him that he has a task that he isn't doing because he is worried about her versus being worried about himself.

We, as humans, have a tendency of worrying about other people's lives and situations. Why do we do this? Perhaps to distract us from our own life situations. Maybe it's a family member who needs to be saved. Many of us won't admit it, but maybe this person has something that we THINK we want. I even believe some people genuinely care about the well being of others. Heres a shocker, maybe you think someone else would be better fit for the life that God has given you *gasps*. No matter what your reasoning is it is not your place to worry about the lives of others. You're not God, you cannot change, fix, save, nor can you duplicate someone else's life. So, worry about yourself!

It has become custom in our society to believe that we should look, act, and live a certain way which creates all types of problems within our lives and communities. It doesn't pay to "fit in" because often times its the one who "stands out" that is called out! In the scripture above Samuel, a man of great faith whose life was dedicated to God at birth, set out to find a successor for King Saul. He thought He knew what God was looking for in a king, but God had to give him a nice little read. Always remember that God qualifies the called versus calling the qualified which is what He did here. David wasn't worried about why he wasn't initially asked to appear at the sacrifice with the rest of his brothers. Instead, David was minding his own business tending to the sheep when he was called out for the anointing of God to be placed on his life.

See! You don't have to be anyone but yourself. You don't have to worry about anyone but you. You can't be a sheep herder if you're busy trying to figure out how a carpenter builds houses. WORRY ABOUT YOURSELF! If you do what you're supposed to do then God will do what He is supposed to do. We can't take anyone into heaven with us and no one can take us with them. The righteous way is straight and NARROW according to the book of Matthew, which means there is only room for one person in your ride. You can direct folks to the dealership, but that doesn't mean they'll leave in the right vehicle that'll take them to the right place. Don't worry about them just worry about yourself.

Big Head

Proverbs 16:18 "Pride goes before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."

So as you may or may not know, today is Freedom Friday. One is incapable of really exercising freedom in Christ with the heavy weight of pride. Do you know anyone with pride or have been around prideful people? Are you possibly operating in pride? Maybe not fully but, moments of pride that may occur from time to time. This five letter word carries much strength. It can be the very reason we do not see God. I mean think about it, the Pharisees were prideful. They didn't want to hear anything Jesus was trying to say & thought of themselves as superior to others.

Where there is pride, love is absent. This is referring only to people who operate in pride habitually. The people who believe nothing they do is wrong & everything others do is wrong. I'm not talking about prideful moments because we all have those moments at some point, but when it is a part of your character then it is a major problem as a Christian. As Christians, God calls us to be servants. Of course, when we first get saved this will not be an over night character additive. Good thing is that as we grow and learn we can definitely allow God to mold us into a humble servant of Christ which is a humble servant for people. People meaning everyone and not just the people we choose to serve. Yeah, it is that real. Can you imagine serving your enemy? Have you ever served your enemy? Something in the sense of just simply treating them better than they treat you. I have been in situations personally that God has used me to treat people I know do not like me with kindness. They were expecting me to respond to them in a negative way and when God helped me treat them differently they were utterly shocked. These people did not know God and God told me that if I just submit to Him they will see Him in me and they did. It was hard, but I had to swallow MY pride to broadcast God's glory.

It is agreed that pride comes before destruction. How? Because conducting ourselves in pride ruins our chance at seeing Jesus eternally. In the natural sense, it can limit our interaction with others as far as potential great relationships because no one wants to feel belittled or degraded with people they choose to share time with. Also let's not forget about the end part of the verse, "A haughty spirit before a fall."  What is a haughty spirit? Basically it ties in with pride. It can be a proud look, which God hates in, Prov. 6:17. Ladies, this is something we have somehow struggled with for years. For some bizarre reason we sometimes are unable to give one another a compliment because of pride. Rarely we uplift one another and everyone knows it. We talk about each other's hair, makeup, shoes, social pages, etc...as if we are not all dust! And I say, we because I too have taken part in such behavior when it really is not important enough to talk about. As women our words should be looked as to be kind not tearing down and rude. So, in honor of #FreedomFriday let's allow God to work on us. It is imperative that we make sure He does because our works are in vain if we work in pride. Enjoy your weekend!

Follow Him

Psalm 16:8 "I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved"

It's THANKFUL THURSDAY so today let's be thankful for God's guidance. No matter what lies on the road ahead of you God is already there and He will either redirect you or prepare/enable you to deal with the situation. After you have accepted Jesus into your life you belong to him and it may be difficult to understand what happens after that. You may ask, What do I do when I leave the church and I'm alone? For starters, now that you're His, you are never alone. When you leave the church YOU become the church. You are to continually seek after God to stay in His presence (No, He will never leave your presence, but you have the potential to depart from His). Our relationship with God is not as beneficial to Him as it is to us. On that note, we should chase after Him more than we expect Him to chase after us.

Have you ever been in a place in your life that you've only dreamed of? Has God ever opened a door for you that you've been afraid to enter? Don't fear your blessings! God did not and will not depart from you after He has blessed you (that's our track record with Him). He is still with you and He will always be; therefore, you can go boldly through that opened door prepared for whatever is to come because He has laid it out just for you. You can enjoy being in the place that you've dreamed of because what is yours is yours! For many of us it is the start of a new school year and many of us are on a new educational dimension, including myself. Take a step back to remember who has your back (front and sides) than thank Him for the opportunity.

Essentially this scripture is David saying He always put God first. David was a man after God's own heart; therefore, he was a man that followed God's commands. No, David was not perfect which makes him even more relatable; however, even in his mess ups He still acknowledged God as the head of His life. We have stop trying to be in control and submit to the will and direction God is leading us, Follow Him.

Smell The Roses

Ecclesiastes 3:4 "A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance."

Here in the first ten verses of chapter three, our good man, Solomon, explains to us that there is a time for everything. One verse I wanted to focus on is the one above. With so much going on in our personal lives and the world around us, it is good to take a breather and realize there is a time for everything. We must put into perspective that bad things do happen. Why? Well, yesterday it was discussed that because of sin from the first marriage, evil made it's grand appearance. Since then, we have had moments of despair, but as the elders would say, "trouble never lasts."

Life is so short and it is sad to live most of it not realizing how precious it truly is and the people around us. Dwelling on current trials will do nothing in bettering our situations. Cry if you need to, shout even, but after you have done all of that don't forget that better days are ahead. Kevin Hart created this title for one of his comedic debuts called, "Laugh through my pain." I personally believe the funniest people and the brightest smiles have had some of the most painful life experiences. Isn't that amazing? Storms can bring a rainbow and life trials can potentially give us the smile of the century or the frown of the century. It is important to laugh because it is indeed medicine. I believe that's why laughing is after weeping because we can't cry forever. I mean, who would want to? Surround yourself with people who can cheer you up rather than add to your sadness. Trust me; a good laugh helps! I try to laugh every day and smile often because no matter what it looks like, I'm blessed. We have to remind ourselves that we are in fact, totally, and completely blessed! So what you may not have everything you desire, now? You're breathing aren't you? Is that not a HUGE blessing amongst everything else you can name God is doing for you?

So then he says, there is a time to mourn and a time to dance. People mourn for different reasons. Just as weeping, it is perfectly okay to mourn. That is why Jesus said He sent us The Comforter in John 14:26. He knew we would be going through troubles in life and needed a supernatural Strength to Help along this rugged journey. Getting in God's Word helps us deal with hurtful situations. His Word can uplift any soul and that's where we get into dancing. Dancing is good for various reasons. Dancing is a great workout. Also, dancing is a great stress reliever. When was the last time you danced? Maybe, dancing isn't your go to option as far as relieving stress, but we all need to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life and smell the roses, you know? Maybe a family outing, or a walk in the park, drawing, sewing, whatever your "safe place" is so to speak just go there. Those times, those moments are what keeps us sane. Silence the noise and laugh, talk to God, let God talk to you. Just take a break from everything. He is The Author of time so you won't be late for anything or dog tired. I know, I've been there. This past semester I had a Biology test to study for and I stopped my busy schedule to spend time with Him and just "woosah." Tired was not the word while I was trying to study, but He gave me energy afterwards. Didn't even study for the test, but I felt completely better and guess what else? I made an 89 on that test! Why? Because He helped me pass! #WontHeDoIt I'm telling you all it pays to take a breather. Smell the roses while you still have breath to do so good people.

Dating Naked

Genesis 2:7 "And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons."

So their eyes became opened and realized that they were indeed naked. Who is "they" in this verse? Well, "they" are Adam and Eve, God's first human creations. Need a little background info? Adam and Eve were created by God, right? After God finished His human construction, He told them not to eat of a particular tree in The Garden of Eden. Of course, we had to find a way to mess up a good thing, so we ate the fruit anyway. Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent. This story has been discussed for some time now, but I would like to look at it from another view.

The partners in crime decided to sew together fig leaves to "cover up" so to speak. Now for some, it may seem as though they are trying to cover up their physical nakedness. I read that as them trying to make a lousy attempt to dust their sin under the rug and keep on moving. Is that what we are suppose to do? God, Adam, and Eve had a relationship. Just think about that for a second. Would you prefer your friend, family, significant other to cover up and act like they did not hurt you or would you rather them confess without being told to do so? God doesn't want to come looking for us. He wants us to look for Him even when we are wrong. To love God is to know God and we must understand that He is very compassionate. So Adam and Eve was fully aware they were wrong, but stunningly thought coming forward was not a good idea.

There is this new show out called, "Dating Naked." Totally get the concept, but do not agree with the method of choice. Seeing how we are God's creation after sin, literal naked dating is not a good idea. However, the concept is to date naked to REALLY get to know the person. What I captured from that verse and reading further was their relationship with God grew once the realization of sin occurred. What I will say is in order to date God we must be naked. Does this mean I must talk to Him in my birthday suit? No, it means we must be transparent. Everything was perfect; perfect! As much sin as I commit I can't imagine being perfect, but I can relate to the sin. Finally owning their wrong without pointing the finger, allowed them to trust God. Trust God in knowing that He will never forsake us in Deuteronomy 31:6. Moreover, nothing can separate us from His Undying Love in Romans 8:38-39. There is no reason to put on a costume when God already knows what is underneath. We can't bandage our hurt, our sin, or our flaws. It only makes matters worse. God has feelings too. Just like we do not appreciate being treated like we are dumb, God does not either. He is The WISEST Being in this galaxy. Pulling a fast one on Him is unheard of, period. Adding to that, it makes it seem like we are dishonering His Grace. Even though they sinned, the couple was still under God's Grace. True enough, consequences were given, but they were still blessed and forgiven! So, be honest, first! Do away with the "cover ups", confess, and let God's sufficient Grace cover you!

Shift your Direction

Jeremiah 26:13 "Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you"

Remember the movie "Twister"? This movie was about storm chasers who were eager to find out what  went on inside of a tornado. They diligently chased storms putting themselves in danger for whatever information they sought after. Watching a tornado on it's path of destruction is amazing to me, but what is even more amazing is the ones that suddenly dissipate. When we lead a life that is not aligned with the Word of God we are indeed a tornado on the path of destruction. Moreover, when we appear to lead a life pleasing to God, but use the Word to hurt others we are even more destructive. Think back to a time when you can clearly remember yourself in a disastrous state. Is it similar to the way a tornado behaves? Were you spinning out of control and carelessly destroying anything in your path? Or are you currently in that place? Some of us aren't the destructive tornado, but just by standers in the path of one.

Sin is a thrill. Although its dangerous we still desire to live on the wild side and partake in the "fun". Even though it has the potential to destroy us we still chase after it just like the storm chasers in the movie above does. We have to be careful not to allow our sin to overtake us and become who we are. We have to be able to recognize where we are and shift our direction and our perspective to Christ. It is never too late to shift your direction, remember the thief on the cross beside Jesus?

So, what do you do when you're in these situations? How do you know if you're on the path of destruction as a tornado or a bystander? Although the answer is simple, which is to examine the life you live, the process of doing so can be a little difficult. If you're a Bible reading believer then you'll know that we can't do any self-assessments or improving in our own strength. Honestly, it was our lack of strength against our flesh that put us in a destructive state of mind to begin with. God has a history of calming storms which means He can also calm your storm and your situation. For those in the path of a destructive storm (person) trust God to protect you as He did His disciples in the midst of the storm on the boat.

I challenge you to do a self assessment this week. Evaluate the things you say, the way you treat people, and they way you treat yourself to see if you're a tornado on the path of destruction. Then evaluate the people around you to see if you're in the path of a destructive tornado. As followers of Christ we are to uplift God's people no matter what their situation is, we are not the judge. After all, none of us are perfect and none of us will be exempt from judgement. So shift your direction NOW! Don't be destructive to those around you and don't allow those around you to be destructive to you.

Keep Talking

2 Chronicles 18:7 "And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whom we may inquire of The Lord: but I hate him; for he never prophesied good unto me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah, the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so."

I want to encourage those brave few who are daring enough to speak up for God, to keep talking. Here we have a king who has been told by false prophets words that never came from God. Those words were all lies. All they wanted to do was tell the king any and everything he wanted to hear. They were not concerned about his life, his future, or his present state. These prophets had a gift alright. I mean if you can call it that. This group of prophets were a bunch of liars. See, this is an interesting chapter. Honestly, I'm not going to go into much detail because I would rather you all read it yourself.

Have you ever experienced some people like this? They may not be prophets, but just people who are in your ear saying God told me to tell you this and it just does not sit well in your spirit? Perhaps they didn't say God told me to tell you, but they are always telling you what you want to hear. Whatever relationship we have we must be true to it. It is not right to say yes to people just because we are afraid that it will rub someone the wrong way. The truth hurts quite honestly most of the time & we mustn't get in a habit of being people pleasers, which was just what Micaiah was not. Everyone knew him as God fearing and always having not a word, but The Word. Why? Because His Word came from God only. The king did not like what Micaiah had to say because his Word was not tailored to the king's preferences. Micaiah gave it to him straight and whoever didn't like it, oh well. Is that not how God operates? God will not change because it is 2014. You can get a Bible from the bookstore or download on your mobile device. I guarantee you, His Word will never change. Seeing how our word changes with a blink, I am very thankful that we have His Word to depend on forever. Also, do not be like the king talking bad about those God sends to speak His Word. Pastors, preachers, Christians in general get bad mouthed when we uplift the truth and exploit lies. Every word does not come from God, yes. However we should not rebuke a Word that does come from The Lord.

So, Micaiah tells the king what The Lord gave him and the king was livid. You ever told someone something that he or she needed to hear and that person got upset with you? The only reason why Micaiah told the king the truth was because he loved The Lord and he loved the king. You have to love people to tell them the truth and you are not able to truthfully say you love God, and not love His creations by lying to them. The word says, that Love rejoices in the truth. Don't let a few people being upset with you make you a liar, keep talking. I have been on both sides before and I am a witness that whatever God says, WILL come to pass. It is better to adhere to the warning than to fall into Satan's trap. I'm sure the king would have given his left arm that he would have listened because it really isn't about the messenger, but the Message. Did you catch that the king said, he hated Micaiah when Who he really hated was God, because if He knew God he would not know hate and he would not continuously reject what God was telling him before his destruction. Keep talking! Don't get quiet, speak up. People will find a way to be upset with you without you doing anything. So tell the truth anyhow, pray for them, and remember it is not about you, but this is spiritual. Satan does not want us to know the truth so if they are mad, it is just the flesh and satan  trying to block what God is trying to relay to them. Tell the truth and dust your feet. They don't have to receive it, but we must relay The Message and do not be a rebuker of God's Word but a rejoicer! Enjoy worship today!

Protect & Serve

Galatians 5:13-14 "For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself"

Only if you've been living under a rock have you not heard/read about the tragedy the residents of Ferguson, MO has experienced this past week. All confidence and trust in the law enforcement officers has been lost. Taking an oath to protect and serve the people of your city, county, or community is a highly distinguishable position; when that oath is upheld. Their duty is to protect us and serve us by enforcing the law properly. The keyword here is "properly". I have mentioned several times over the years how police officers have adopted a "shoot first, ask later" mentality. The issue is long overdue for addressing and my deepest sympathy goes out to the family who has to be the "guinea pig" for such behavior.

What does it really mean to protect and serve? No one knows that better than Jesus who has protected us from our own sinful nature and humbled Himself enough to serve God's people while He was here on earth. Although Jesus was in fact a superior to each and everyone He encountered He still responded with love in every situation. By no means am I saying police officers are to be like Jesus; however, we should all strive to exhibit His characteristics. Yes, I do believe that the Bible and the life of Jesus Christ is a model for how we are to behave and treat one another. Perhaps if more people adopted this mindset we would live in a much more peaceful communities. Jesus led by example as should public servants such as police officers. They should exemplify following the law that they are enforcing versus trying to be exempt from it to justify misconduct.

Imagine if Jesus took advantage of the power He had as the Son of God? What if He had approached people with aggressiveness instead of sincere compassion? The gospels probably wouldn't exist because His purpose wouldn't have been fulfilled. It seems as though police officers have forgotten their purpose as public servants. Even I, as a city level government Microbiologist, have been lectured on the importance of my duties as a public service employee.

In this present moment it is our time to stand up for what we know is right. Instead of thinking of ourself as a helpless individual we must stand together and be hopeful. Not every police officer is corrupt; however, one bad apple will make you skeptical about the whole bunch. As followers of Christ we have to be diligent in prayer for our people during such a tragic time.

Excess

So it is #FreedomFriday and we are going to discuss *cue drumroll* ex to the cess! Yes, excess ladies and gents. I believe this is something we all can relate to especially in this era of life. These are definitely the years of excess. When was the last time you took a breather and asked yourself what do I need to get rid of for the better? Please do not tell me you only take account during spring cleaning and New Year's Eve. If that is true, it's fine. That is what this post is for, to help you, me, and Sally let go of the baggage.

Okay, so we all know that when we clean our homes, ladies, that we feel so much better. Getting rid of old paperwork, organizing, and tidying brings better energy to our lives. For my fellas when you have had a long day, washing off excess stress along with dirt from the day in a nice long shower can make you feel brand new. I want to relate that in our spiritual walk. Once we clean house so to speak, we notice how much better we feel afterwards. Sometimes cleaning may require fasting and praying, going on a Christian retreat to regroup, or just simply(not so simple though) getting rid of old habits. Excess is basically anything that is unnecessarily in our lives that we do not need. Carrying around unnecessary baggage can stunt growth and prevent anything else from coming in our life's door. Ever seen hoarders? Man, those people have never properly let go of a death, hurt, bad ending mentally which created terrible excess in their earthly house. Why? Because their spiritual house was clogged. As humans, what is going on inside of us will eventually reflect outwardly for all to see and sometimes it is not a pretty selfie. A little millennial humor, but anyways you get the gist.

I'm not trying to point out flaws just trying to point to Christ. Whatever we may be harboring on the inside, Jesus is willing & ready to help us let go. The Bible says, by His Stripes we are HEALED. Everyone that Jesus Healed, was Healed completely! You know why? Of course you do, because they gave whatever issues they had over to Him. Don't try to mentally block the past in your own strength, but ask God daily to help you overcome your past! That my friends is how we rid ourselves of excess. It is not an over night task, but a diligent one. We get so excited about Friday and the weekend, still carrying hurt from 5 years ago. A particular day will not lighten our load. That's our duty! The duty to recognize, release, and RELAX. Let God rebuild, but He is unable to do so if the construction site still has old rubble. Just as well we are unable to properly clean without getting rid of some things. So what are you waiting for? #LetItGo Enjoy the weekend people!

Not Without You

Psalm 23:6 "And surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever"

It's THANKFUL THURSDAY and I have a praise of gratitude on my spirit right now for God's presence. As I've been reading my new devotional "Not Without You" by Natasha Denise Frazier I've become more aware of the fact that I'm nothing without God.

Can you name anything you've done without God? What would you do if the Lord wasn't on your side? See some of us believe that it is the receipt of our salvation that allows God to be with us; however, it's the receipt of our salvation that allows us to be with Him. He knew us from the start; therefore, He was with us from the start. We have to commit our lives to Him, we have to accept Him as Lord and Savior because He has indeed already chosen us beforehand. God created each and everyone of us just as He did Adam, He breathes breath into our body each day. He knew you before you decided to come to know Him, amazing right? God knows each of us so well that we don't truly begin knowing who we are until we begin knowing who He is.

Salvation is the acknowledgement that we can't go through life without He who gave us life. I challenge you to look back over every milestone in your past and evaluate how you overcame it. If you can't explain it then it was God and if you can explain it then guess what, it was still God! His grace and mercy that follows us all the days of our life is what keeps us in this life and for that we must be thankful. My birth was a difficult for both my mother and I, but we're both still here! I've had Chronic Asthma since my early years, experiencing several life threatening attacks, but I'm still here. My mother had kidney failure from salmonella food poisoning, but she's still here. All because God was with us. He protects us from things seen and unseen, so be careful not to discredit Him.

If God spared your life one time it would've been considered a fluke, the second time would've been a coincidence, but at the third time it was a pattern. This pattern proved to have purpose because we know that the only One who could/would save your life is the One who gives you life. You can't fulfill your purpose without Him. Even the possible is impossible without Him. So I'm glad that He was with me even when I didn't acknowledge His presence and I'm even more glad that I now have the chance to praise Him for always being with me, protecting me, loving me, and etc. Give Him the glory today!

Know Justice, Know Peace

Psalm 89:14, 18 "Justice and judgment are the habitation of Your throne: mercy and truth shall go before Your Face. For The Lord is our defense; and The Holy One of Israel is our King."

What do you need justice for in your life? There have been countless news articles and the lack there of with racial profiling within this self-proclaimed beautiful country. Not only have blacks been considered non citizens and ostracized in many circles, but Christians as well. This is nothing new. Injustice has been happening for years. So what do we do? Do we panic? Question God's concern? Take matters into our own hands by fighting evil with evil? I will tell you what we should do. We keep in mind that God is still Sovereign.

On a daily basis there are people fighting all over the world for justice. People fight for justice in their homes, communities, jobs, and country. There are many fighting just to be alive. In China women fight to keep a female child because sons are more favorable. Throughout various parts of the world people are fighting just to see another day. Little children being taught how to use guns and hate before their ABC's. Where is the good judgment? Then we may have justice being denied on the workforce where you have given your all to the company and they give the boss's nephew the raise instead. What about going to school for years to earn a degree that your loans seem to be higher than your annual income? So the scripture states God dwells on Justice and Judgment. It is a part of Him. Just because it seems like the wrong people are making it doesn't mean they really are making it. For the first shall be last and the last shall be first says The Word! It is very much okay to be upset and vocal about any injustice that happens. Had it not been for others speaking up who knows where America would be right now. All I stress to you and myself is to not be perplexed about whatever is happening in the world around us. God is ALWAYS at our defense.

Christians deal with an injustice every day. Openly gay people can come out and have a parade. Meanwhile Christians are hushed about The Love we have for Jesus and His Word. Justice has been such a one sided subject here in America that it makes it hard to believe in the constitution that was so constructively taught to us as children. We know that The Word brings more clarity on life issues than any man made manuscript. Justice has never left because Justice is God. God reigns on The Seat of Justice and Judgment. Satan may think he has won, but his time is short and God will do away with all evil in His Timing. We don't have to keep Hope alive because Hope never dies. Hope was on The Cross and made a Promise that whosoever believe in Him will not perish, but inherit eternal life. Hope saved and defended that believing thief and still defends today. Hope is Jesus. Jesus is our Hope. He is our Defense and has been for years. We may not have the justice we feel we deserve, but we do have Peace. Peace in knowing that our God is our defense in any trial we face no matter the circumstance or how harsh our natural eye may portray. Know Justice, Know Peace.

Help Me!

Mark 9:24 "And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief"

HELP ME, LORD! Have you every cried out to God in the midst of your situation or circumstance and honestly didn't think He would or even could help you? I would not only be dishonest with you, but I would also be dishonest with myself if I proclaimed to never have questioned my faith or belief that God could and/or would do something in my life. Yes, I know Philippians 4:13 very well. Yes, I'm aware of Philippians 4:19. And I've quoted Romans 8:28 more times than I can remember; but I haven't always known who God was. So, the question is not whether or not I know the Word it's whether or not I believe in it and in Him.

As with most people, my life is far from how I imagined it to be. Honestly, if it were completely up to me I would've surpassed all my troubles if given the opportunity. Fortunately, for both you and I, those experiences have shaped us into who we are today. Although God brought me out of those dry seasons, as He said He would, I did experience times of unbelief.

It's so easy to believe in God when you can see Him actively moving in your life, but when you don't [see Him] doubt easily seeps in. I used to live by the saying "Seeing is Believing"; however, faith is the exact opposite (Hebrews 11:1). Often times when we don't see God working in our lives we don't believe that He is indeed working. Realistically, in our salvation we should be working so hard for God that we have no time to decide that He's not working along side us. Perhaps it is the ounce of unbelief that we have that prolongs our circumstance or prevents deliverance altogether. What's the point in asking God for something if you don't believe 100% without 0.1% of doubt that He will do it? I commend the humbleness of this man in the passage above who asked God for help with His unbelief. He was honest with God and himself which yielded the deliverance he sought for his son.

Honesty with God! Now that's a common practice that is not so common, but look at the results honesty got this man! His son was delivered! For some reason we have a difficult time being completely honest with God as if He doesn't already know. As I've said many times before God will not enter where He is not invited; therefore, He will not fix a situation that you have not come to Him with in all honesty. When we go to God we should be naked and Unashamed, but instead we go to Him naked and ashamed which is detrimental to our relationship to Him. Well Kim, how is that? Because when you're not honest with God you show Him that you don't trust Him which in turn hinders the growth of your relationship with Him and so on.

So when we go to God for help we must remember to be HONEST and BELIEVE. You can shout until the cows come home and dance up and down the aisle at church but if you don't believe then all of that means absolutely nothing. Whenever you feel doubt seeping in pray to God for help in your unbelief as this man has done. Don't allow the limitations of your mind to limit what you believe God can do. Let all of your worries, circumstances, and situations fall to the back as you allow God to come forth in your life. Know the God you serve; He is a believable God that does unbelievable things. He has raised the dead, restored the sight of the blind, fed the multitude with 2 fish and 5 loaves, and so on. The only difference between you and those people is their level of belief. Jesus proclaimed on the cross that IT was finished not the HE was finished which means He is still in the miracle-working business. He still heals, He still provides, and He still serves His people!

I'm good

Deuteronomy 13:5 "And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death; because he has spoken to turn you away from The Lord your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust you out of the way which The Lord your God commanded you to walk in. So put away the evil from your midst."

We should start this week off stating that "I'm good." As we already know, it is inevitable to keep people from doing or speaking evil to us and against us. Regardless of that known fact, we are indeed able to rebuke such evil in our lives. God has granted us the power to remove anything and anyone that will try to keep us from what we know is right and true. Travel on down to The New Testament in the Gospel of  Matt. 16:19. There Jesus tells Peter and us that He has freely given us keys to the kingdom of Heaven. How generous is that? To give our wretched selves keys to make life altering and powerful changes just by the words of our mouth, yet we do not use them as we should.

This passage is a warning to us not to allow false witnesses to set up camp within our minds and hearts that we claim Jesus inhabits. There are plenty people whom satan has sent out whispering in our ears telling us "God told me to tell you this" or "I had a dream that you would give me fifty dollars". At some point we must ask which "god" are you referring to because my God has not revealed that to me. Seeing how we are living after the church has been established and Jesus has torn the veil, we too have access to hear God. The time has passed when we had to go to a high priest to hear from God. God is always speaking, we just have to be listening and some things are not worth bothering our ear drums. Perhaps the real false witness is you. You may have come up with a hunch or may be trying to put some things together that just do not mix. We can be so keen on making something happen that we get it mixed up with what God will make happen.

So it states that since God has brought you out to put away whatever may cause you to revert back to evil deeds or an evil mindset. Going against God in general is evil. We do not have to be killers or robbers to be considered evil or to be thought of as committing evil. Whatever we do that is not right in the eye sight of God is evil, period. There is no respect of sin in God's Eyes. Whatever is keeping us or trying to negate us from what we know is true we should immediately do away with. Just say, I'm good on that! It could be something within or someone on the outside trying to get in. At any rate, we must purge ourselves from all evil, daily. Thank God that nothing can separate us from His love, but that doesn't mean we can't be heavily distracted. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. Stay true to you, the you Christ died for you to become! He delivered us the least we can do is keep our end and live for Him and denounce the evil that will try to keep us astray. Have a good week!

God is Leading You!

Exodus 14:13-14 Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still"

The infamous parting of the Red Sea! A part of the Bible that even the unsaved know, but don't quite understand. These people, under the leadership of Moses whom God had appointed, had left their comfort zone of being slaves in Egypt to travel to the Promised Land. Promised Land? Yes, the land of freedom  They wandered for 40 years in the wilderness facing many obstacles yet never ending their journey. At times they were frustrated, wanted to turn back, and second guessing; however, they kept going because deep down they knew God had called them out. Their situation is very relatable in that many of us have been called out by God yet we haven't reached our Promised Land. It seems we are wandering in a circle and we don't quite understand why nor do we understand where God is leading us.

We wander for two reasons #1 because we're not ready (spiritually and mentally) to receive what God has for us and #2 because we're not ready God has to protect us until we become ready. Have you ever tried walking on a balance beam? What about a straight line in general? Can you draw a perfectly straight line? I know I can't, even with a ruler it's challenging for me to draw a straight line. God knows that His ways are not always easy that's why He gives us strength and grants us grace and mercy. Furthermore, God knows that when we choose His ways He then has to prepare our minds, hearts, and spirit to deal with the weapons people will try to use to destroy us.

Be careful not to give up on God's promise due to the amount of time you've spent wandering. Also, don't be so quick to settle into your sorrow because you serve a God that does not lack so neither shall you. Ecclesiastes 3 tells us that there is a time and season for everything. And guess who knows the right timing? Yep, GOD! Trust Him even when you're wandering in the wilderness because even still He has a purpose.

Stand on God's word even when your enemy is in sight. It may seem the faster you run the closer your emery gets until eventually you run into what looks like a dead end. Ever heard the saying "God will make a way out of no way"? Well, I'm going out on a limb and say this comes from God giving Moses the ability to part the Red Sea. There was no way the Isrealites was going to make it across the sea alive BUT GOD made a way out of no way. The Isralites did several things here; they listened to God, they trusted God, they followed His direction, and they were blessed for it.

So today I'm telling you that God is leading you so trust Him. When it appears you've reached a dead end look and what you have, as Moses did, and use what God has given you thus far. God doesn't break HIS promises so let Him take the lead!

God Said...

Isaiah 14:24 "The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:"

One thing we can be very sure of is God is a Man of His Word. There are many reasons we may doubt God none of which are because of Him. In actuality because we are so imperfect, we begin to question Perfection, which is God. Because we are unable to see our breakthrough, taste our victory, or feel our deliverance we start to doubt what God has already promised us. Jesus took care of everything we needed to survive on earth and after death yet we still get dissatisfied or discouraged. Why? Are our situations really that bad or is our mindset just that bad? The mindset to equivalate God's Word to the same word man has and mostly breaks. They are not the same.

Just as The Good Book states much later in Isaiah 55:8, For My Thoughts are not your thoughts, nor My Ways, your ways, declares The Lord."Meaning that whatever God thinks is unparalleled to what we can even imagine! It is amazing how we can trust the casinos more than we trust God. Many of us will go spend money in high hopes of a great return on our investment knowing there is a high percentage of losing our money oppose to keeping it or even gaining more. Then we have an ALL true, honest, faithful, loving God Whom we can't seem to trust just a little bit. That is all that He asks of us, a little faith. Having faith in God is trusting His Promise, ALL of His Promises. There may be some still searching for their purpose in life. Know that God has already planned your life. All you have to do is acknowledge Him, so that He can direct you into that particular Promise. Maybe someone is waiting on a need that has to be met that God promised He would fulfill. I urge you to wait on The Lord & do not be discouraged in your time of waiting. He is not slow concerning His Promise. See, there is just a road to travel before His Promise is revealed to us.

Remember the Israelites? No? Yes? Well, in a nutshell they had to travel through the wilderness before they saw what God Promised. I believe, like many of us still do today, just heard the word promise and thought oh we are about to "come on down" like the price is right and get our reward, no. See it took them forty years to get to their destination because of their own foolishness, but that's a whole other post. All I will input from that passage is to simply not doubt God once He has already spoken over your life! Let's stop complaining and keep praising. Turn our doubts into dances of thanksgiving and honor because God will come through. Different religions and tribes have a rain dance for rain to come during a drought or a dance for their harvest to grow. They have enough sense to not complain and give a shout to their "god." Why can't we? Christians should be the loudest and most confident people when discussing religion because our God is actually real and He never lies! His Words are true EVERY time. So don't sweat, pursue your purpose in Him even if it is not going according to your time schedule. His Word is sure! That you can bet on! If God said it, just wait on it. Enjoy your weekend!

One-on-One

Luke 5:16 "And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed"

School is starting back!!! As I scroll down my Facebook Timeline I am overjoyed seeing children excited about their first day of school. Actually, I can't help but reminisce on those good ole days when I did the same. More specifically, I can remember when the teacher would teach the entire class a lesson then offer one-on-one help to those who wanted or needed a better understanding. Those one-on-one sessions not only helped my academics, but it also helped develop a relationship with my teacher. At the beginning of my sixth grade year I remember joining the band (because I was indeed a cool kid lol) where I learned to play the flute. My band director thought I was a pretty good player so he suggested my mom pay for private lessons to "perfect" my playing. From those experiences, as an adult, within my career I have one-on-one meetings with my supervisor in hopes of improving my work performance, expand my duties beyond the scope of my job description, and develop a trusting relationship with her. Those one-on-ones helped me grow from a young girl into the woman I am today.

One-on-one time is essential, effective, and necessary in almost every aspect of life. More importantly one-on-one time with God is a MUST. One-on-one's shows that you care, that you want more from the situation, it shows effort to be better, and etc. There is no way a relationship will work if you don't spend time alone fellowshipping and getting to know one another. It is in these one-on-one sessions that effective communication, trust, and love develops. This would be the place where you can be most vulnerable, open, and available. Spiritually, going to church is good but you haven't truly experienced the fullness of God until you've gotten on a more personal level; hence, a one-on-one. You'll be able to understand Him better without the baby behind you crying or the woman next to you shouting. When you understand God you're able to be a better servant of God knowing exactly what your purpose and assignment is and which steps to take to stay on the right path.

In biblical days it was common for God's people to withdraw themselves to pray in private. Some even spent days and weeks in solitary confinement, praying and spending time with God all by themselves. In the busy world we live in it's unbelievably difficult for people to experience God on a personal level because we don't MAKE time to do so. We actually focus more on our worldly relationships than we do our relationship with God. Let me tell you a secret though, there are some things that man can't provide for you. There are some questions that only God can answer and there are some places that only God can guide you. Would you follow the lead of a stranger? Who listens to someone they don't know? In fact, when we hear strangers talking around us we know it's not to us so often times we don't listen. Well if you don't have a relationship with God that is indeed what He is to you, a stranger. Maybe, just maybe you're tuning God out because you haven't taken the time to establish a relationship with Him so you don't recognize, understand, or really hear His voice.

And yes, just like a game of one-on-one basketball a one-on-one encounter with God can be intimidating at first. Always know that it is not to hurt you but to help you grow as a better player and in a more spiritual sense a better servant. The idea of a one-on-one basketball game is to see where you stand as a player so that you can grow and improve. The same thing for our relationship with God, when we meet with Him one-on-one He is able to see us for the servant that we really are and develop us into the servant that He wants us to be. Just as we crave one-on-one time with our significant others to strengthen our relationship God craves one-on-one time with us to groom us for the Kingdom. Spend more time with Him...a One-on-one may be the solution to all your problems!

God lives; but is our praise dead?

Psalm 115:17 " The dead praise not The Lord, neither any that go down into silence."

So here we have it. The dead are unable to praise God? Why? Because our God lives! The scripture states in Psalm 150:6 let everything that has breath praise The Lord! Now this can be taken two ways. See everyone can praise God, but not everyone will praise God. Because of God we all function which is stated in Acts 17:28. We know that we ALL have something to praise God for one way or another. Now, the deadness comes into play because not all have an understanding of how to praise God or when to praise God. We are unable to do something without instruction nor are we able to talk to someone sincerely when we do not know them.

I'm going somewhere just hold tight. When God says let everything that has breath praise The Lord, to me it goes back to the scripture it is His Will that none be lost in 2 Peter 3:9. Since God is so gracious and kind enough to see after all mankind despite our wickedness and disobedience, then yes ALL with breath SHOULD praise Him. However, God knows that many of us will not offer up praise because of various reasons. There are some who have not yet believed which can hinder their praise. There are people who praise science, Buddha, Muhammad, themselves, Beyoncé, etc which correlates with being dead because Jesus is LIFE. Without true knowledge of Jesus and submission to God we are dead spiritually. Then we have the dead praise saints give. Yes, us saints. The deadness of our current situation can hinder our praise. We should not allow what we are going through or what others do to us cause us to be dead in regard of giving God His due praise. For it is written, let the redeemed of The Lord say so!

So when should we praise God? There is never a bad time to give God praise. He is WORTHY of it all. The Wonderful Creator Who formed the land and the seas. The Precise Potter Who also formed you and me! Do not allow your situations to silence your thankfulness to God because that's all praise really is. We are vocally thanking God with words of affirmation and gratitude. It's #THANKFULTHURSDAY!! You are alive! The only people praising God are His people on earth and His angels in Heaven! Why? Because we are alive! The spirituality dead and eternally dead are unable to praise God, but we are and we should take advantage of that! So praise Him! Show that you're thankful by living for Him and choosing right over wrong. Don't just vocally thank Him; thank Him with your life. Someone can get saved off your praise, testimony, your daily demonstration of how majestic God is in your life.

Trouble Seeing?

Matthew 7:2 "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

This passage, Judging Others, is a hard pill to swallow for many of us whether we like to admit it or not. A couple weeks ago our "What Is It Good For" post touched on the Word's ability to correct us. THIS is an example of that! I can attest to being guilty of judging others; however, I don't uphold that same judgment for myself. My boyfriend and I were conversing a few weeks ago about my expectations in our relationship. Within our conversation he said that I have standards for him (he actually calls them rules, but they're NOT) that I don't uphold myself, which helped me write this post. Ultimately I'm a listener; therefore, when someone says something to me it sticks and marinates until it all makes sense.

God used my relationship to show me a major flaw of mine that needs correcting. Amazingly enough I "stumbled" upon this passage when God led me to write "Ask, Seek, Knock" which further confirmed my problem needed to be addressed. These words came directly from JESUS so I know it's real! I didn't immediately share my revelation because God needed me to remove the log from my eyes to see it for what it really was. He had to show me that it's not okay to judge others because I myself am not perfect. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".  I've learned to not have standards that I myself can't measure up to.

So, this is a #SelfCheck post. Are your flaws preventing you from seeing others for who they truly are? Are you finding fault in others when the fault is really in you? Now, I know some people really do have issues; however, it is for God to reveal to them not us. For those of you who wear glasses, have you ever undoubtedly noticed a stain on something you were looking at only to find out it was actually on your glasses? I have! I've even been at work looking through my microscope about to make a bad call before noticing that it's my microscope lens that needs cleaning. Message: Clean up your own life before you suggest that someone else needs to clean theirs. Furthermore, how can you help remove a small speck from someone else's eye when you have an even more distorted view in your own eye? You'll end up completely blinding them and as Christians that is not what we're here to do. Instead we are to lead and we can't do that if we are seeing clearly. Amazing grace says I once was blind, but now I see. Thank God for your sight and just pray for others who haven't gained theirs yet. My elders would say "sweep around your own doorstep before you voice your concerns about mine".

Also, remember that people are not their circumstances and just like you they have a story that has probably not been told. Instead of judging them identify with them, humble yourself to be able to understand that they are still God's creation which is perfect beneath all the circumstances. Hate the sin not the sinner.

It's all about your roots!

Psalm 1:3 "And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper"

By no means do I have a green thumb, but I'm well aware that in order for a tree to grow it has to be positioned in a place that allows proper nourishment. Being a scientist I am also aware that trees use a process called photosynthesis to convert light from the sun to the energy needed for their survival. The fruit, leaves or lack thereof on trees help us decipher which season we're currently in which can be metaphorically linked to our lives. Trees take on a very different look as they go between seasons and adapt to the weather conditions. Thunderstorms, ice storms, snow, extreme heat, lack of rain, and etc. may occur but because of their root system the trees are able to withstand all conditions. The strength of the tree lies within the depth of it's roots; therefore, the deeper the roots the stronger the tree.

Can you now see why this Psalm says what it says? In order for God to flow through us we have to be in a position to receive what He is giving in order to yield the fruits of the Spirit. You can't be in a job that doesn't allow you to grow nor can you be in a relationship that hinders your spiritual, mental, and/or personal growth. We sometimes fix in our minds that we'll be okay when we make it to a certain point in life which is WRONG! Don't be complacent where you are because as long as there is breath in your body you have room for growth. God planted a seed in you, so get where you can grow out in full bloom. Fruit has seeds which can be planted to make more fruit; therefore, make sure everyone you come in contact with gets a piece of your fruit to take with them to perhaps plant that same seed somewhere else. You never know...eventually there will be a world of good fruit.

Always remember that our roots must go deeper than the surface of the problems we face daily, weekly, or monthly. So, check your location! Make sure you're in a place where you can receive light from the SON (needed for survival) and water that will yield the fruits of the Spirit. No matter what kind of weather comes with the seasons your roots should be deep and strong enough so that you will not be moved. You may sway to the left and the right a little, all your leaves may fall off, and you may lose some branches but you'll never be uprooted. Go deeper in Christ and see what kind of strength you come up with.

Don't get tired

2 Chronicles 15:7 "Therefore be strong, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded."

Here lies a very encouraging and reassuring scripture! This was a message God was delivering to Asa, but can be used for any of us who seem to believe their work is being unnoticed. There are times that we may feel overlooked when we know we have given our complete best. We may see others appearing to skate through life as we diligently work only seemingly gaining just enough to get by. But what does God say? Not in so many words, but to not get tired. God records everything we do whether it be good or bad. Seeing that, there is no need to stay down about where you may be at in life because your reward IS coming.

When we confess to be believers we sacrifice our perspective, wants, desires all for God's perspective, wants, and desires. We happily sing William McDowell's "I give myself away" but when we feel we have not received our reward, we forget why we are really working. We work not to obtain salvation, but because we are saved. God never guaranteed us appreciation from other human beings. He never promised people will not leave you or that life is a piece of cake. We show lack of appreciation for God every day, yes even you because no one can give God the amount of thankfulness that is due to Him. And what does He do? He does not stop blessing us, loving us, protecting us, ALL of us even the ones who have not yet believed. The same charge we are held to every day, to not get tired.

There may be a friend, co worker, family member, church member you have been praying for and have not seen results yet. Maybe there is a ministry that God placed you over that is not prospering like it should even though you have given God your ALL. Could it be your job that fails to see your superb work ethic and you have been praying for a raise? Whatever you may need strength for ask for it right now! Don't sleep on God because He is fully awake on all of the issues we face. Real farmers do not stop planting and cultivating their crops because of one bad harvest. They keep plowing and watering for the next year in good faith that their crops will flourish. Same mindset we must have in this Christian journey. Keep plowing, pray for strength, and you will soon enjoy the fruits of your labor. We work unto The Lord anyways so if we delight in Him, He will delight in us. Start your week off working unto The Lord and be mindful that your diligent work is being accounted for in Heaven.

Can you hear Me now?

Isaiah 43:8 "Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears."

So, let's set up an illustration. You ready? Here we go. There was this diligent church goer who attended church service faithfully. Not only did she attend church service, but she also attended Bible Study, most of the church programs, and outreach. Her name was Sally. Everyone knew her around the town as that faithful church goer. What people were unaware of was the fact Sally never really knew scripture. See, she had an outstanding appearance, but nothing was REAL. This woman's life was robotic. Everything was like clock work. Get up, go to church, and go home was her routine. Inwardly there was no real change because she has rehearsed this lifestyle since she was little. All she knew was my parents took me to church so I must continue the pattern.

Then we have Sam. Sam is well, a Christian who has lost his way. He started out great, but somewhere along the lines, started putting other people before God. He would go to church service with the intentions on giving God His all, but his phone vibrates. It's his girlfriend texting him how fun last night was and how she wish he didn't go to church so much. Sam's girlfriend you guessed it is his distraction. He is so caught up in her that he is inadvertently detaching his fellowsip with God. And so God says, bring forth the blind who have eyes and the deaf that have ears. These two stories are examples of how a person can be spiritually handicapped. One being Sally who is a rehearsed and not real and the other being Sam who is saved, but distracted. Both are dealing with some paralyzing situations.

Just because we have been "churched" all of our lives does not mean we are apart of God's Church. Salvation is not going to church, but because we are saved we gladly, again GLADLY worship as a collective body in Christ. It is not a robotic routine, but a righteous one. There is something wrong with professing saints having an attitude while in worship when God has done so much for us. Worship is to magnify God for Who He Is. The whole church should be the praise team not a select few on stage because we ALL have something to praise God for just open your eyes. Then we have the Christians who are perhaps struggling. It may not be a significant other but what is blocking your sight of Christ? Because that is Who we all should be looking towards daily. Is it a job, school, family, a friend, money, whatever it may be rid yourself of it. Pray that your focus is returned back to Him and for forgiveness of putting anything before Him. This is something that needs to be said because it is serious. Only a third of the church is actually saved because of being blind to The Word of God and deaf to His call. We know the lingo and the wardrobe but we are unable to costume our way into Heaven. Thank God for His Mercy and Forgiveness that as long as we are breathing can openly ask for a change! He can heal our spiritual handicaps if we allow Him. Go into worship ready and willing to hear The Word and See The Word, for The Word is God.

Transformation

Matthew 9:20 "And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:"

"Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about"

I found this quote on ibelieve.com earlier this week and because of its truth I posted it to our FB Page. People fight battles within themselves for years and years on end without anyone ever knowing, praying to God for a change. This woman with the issue of blood had been battling this "disease" for 12 years with no relief; imagine that. People considered her unclean and she had given all that she had just for the possibility of being in the presence of Jesus; a chance to be whole again. Once she got in His presence she knew that she needed more, she needed to actually touch Him or be touched by Him. How amazing is that? Imagine what kind of healing would come over you if you got the chance to actually touch Jesus. We may not be able to reach out to touch the hem of His garment but we can surely allow Him to touch us. I'm still a believer of miracle healing by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus completely transformed the woman with the issue of blood making her whole again and I believe He can still do that for you and I. We, in turn, have to know how to get in His presence so much so that He'll reach out to touch us. Are you ready for your transformation? It doesn't matter if people say you're not ready; what does God say?

The Bigger Picture

Matt. 14:14 "And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and He healed their sick."

Here lies a man Who as The Bible stated has no place to lay His head recorded in Matt. 8:20. He had just heard word of His dear friend John The Baptist death and not even a moment to grieve He looked beyond His personal feelings and showed compassion to those that were sick. Why? Because He knew that others needed Him. Yes, He was still God, but He also could feel what we feel. Can you imagine? Someone very close to you has died and you are helping someone else get through their problems? That is what we are called to do. You know, be selfless and not selfish. So many times we may get so caught up in what we are going through that we forget the big picture. That painting on the wall that illustrates our life is not our own anymore. That we are unable to stay down and dwell about what our current trial may be because there is still work to be done, lives that need changing, and a God that deserves glorifying! That's what Jesus did in that passage, glorified His Father. Many of us would have let those people stay sick because we chose to grieve a loved one. Jesus showed His compassion toward them even when His disciples were trying to get Him to send them away in Matt. 14:15. Also, one of love's characteristics is not being self seeking. Love aims to please not meaning a people pleaser, but pleasing God. If we please God we will have no problem helping someone along the way. Our goal as Christians should be deeper than the worldly goals we once wanted to obtain. Having a great job is fine, getting a family, etc..but our main goal should be to exemplify Christ in our daily living. To exemplify Him is to care for the needs of others over our personal wants. We should give to the point that people start to question like the disciples did Jesus. It is time for God's people to come awake and truly serve God. The world needs to see that there are still compassionate people who serve a compassionate God. It is not about us anymore, but about our lives being dedicated to Him. Let us pray to arise to the occasion of being servants of Christ.
